Prizes are to be determined at this time, but I can guarantee that it is going to be an absolute blast! How do you sign up, you ask? Easy. Eventually we will get down to the final two people, and prizes will be given out at the end of the tournament for those final two. We are extremely excited for this, and can't thank Rusty and his crew at the Jordan Landing Gamestop enough for this awesome opportunity. If this tournament goes well, we will hold tournaments very frequently. So sign up if you want more of these to happen, and tell all your friends about it!

In the future, games that we will be holding tournaments with will consist of:

Halo: Reach
Halo: Anniversary
Modern Warfare 3
Gears of War 3

A set schedule has not been put into place yet for each of these titles. If you have ANY recommendations for games, or suggestions to help us throw the best tournaments possible, or any questions at all, please send an e-mail to gamingcuisine@gmail.com. Please check back frequently with any updates to this tournament.

Not Your Everyday Shooter

Everyday Shooter: a name that screams unique qualities.  Source

Everyday Shooter
PS3, PC
2008

Some of you may be wondering why I'm taking the time to review a nearly four year old game instead of something newer. Well, the reason for that is that I not only want to touch base on a modern classic, in this case Everyday Shooter, but I also want to briefly discuss the beauty of simplicity.

Those who have played Everyday Shooter know it is anything but another arena shooter. Developed by one man from start to finish, it is a pretty unique title. From its bizarre, cartoon-like, graphics, and its pretty much all guitar soundtrack, ES provides a relaxing break from the norm. From the moment I picked up ES my favorite aspect of the game was the music. Remaining mellow for the most part, it never feels overwhelming, and every enemy destroyed plays a "riff", meaning that when combos of enemies are destroyed, it gives a discordant, yet pleasant, series of notes to go along with the music.

Mass Effect Series Review: Update

I began my incredible journey through the first Mass Effect on the 7th of March. My goal was to get through it and it's sequel fast enough to be able to play the recently released third installment of the series so that I could give you all my review of the entire series. I quickly realized that "quickly get through" was a horrible idea.

The first Mass Effect was an incredible game, and about half way through, I found my self caring for my crew, wanting to build friendships, and relationships aboard the Normandy SR1. By the end of the game, I was extremely quick to put in the second game to see what would happen next. I have put around 16 hours of time into the second game, and I must say, there is many more hours to experience this truly incredible game. I wanted to let you all know that I am trying to put my heart and soul into this game so that I may share a unique "series review" for you to read. The time is nearing, and I know it will be worth the wait. Please check back frequently to catch this review, and other great articles from us at Gaming Cuisine!

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!

Batman: Gotham City

There is no denying that Batman: Arkham City is the best video game based off of a comic book I've ever played. Arkham City gives the player a chance to experience Batman like no other game ever has. Although much of the gameplay was established in its predecessor, Batman: Arkham Asylum, AC is bigger, better, and packs a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Dishonored: First Look

Ouch!!
Are you a stealth gamer that is looking for a new and unique twist in this genre? You're in luck. Dishonored is a stealth game coming out this year that is sure to keep your options open in it's open sandbox style of stealth gaming. There are several ways to eliminate a target, that it's almost like an RPG. Although, there is no honor system in this game, you're left with the decision of weather you want to be good or bad. Think of this game as Hitman or Splinter Cell, meets Deus Ex, or Skyrim. Lucky for us, Gamespot has an incredible video with the exclusive first look into this game. Follow this link to check it out, and get your gaming cuisine on!

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!

The Final Act: A Brief History of Companies and Their Names: Part 3

Back in the day you had to be a model just to stand
next to a game they were so uncommon.

Last week I promised a brief take on Atari, Coleco and Activision. As you may know all three of these companies were large players in the early eighties, before the industry crash of '83-'84. While I won't be covering the industry crash, these companies all had a hand in its beginning and its long lasting effects. For more information on the early industry crash I'd recommend checking out books such as Phoenix: The Fall and Rise of Video Games (Leonard Herman, be warned, it's a pretty dry read),  The Ultimate History of Video Games (Richard L. Kent), and Replay: the History of Video Games (Tristan Donovan.) These fine books provide much more detail, and information, on the early years of the industry than I could possibly hope to do here. With that out of the way, onto the article.

Mass Effect Series Review

With the release of Mass Effect 3 today, I decided to make an announcement. I didn't get into this series until this installment. I have decided to play through the first and second game before I play through the third game. In doing so, my review will not only be for ME3, but for the entire series as a whole. Please check back in the next couple of weeks for this review. I think it will be a good opportunity to look at each of the games individually, and at the series all together!

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!

Split Screen... Is it coming back?

Hard to believe that this was the best of the best!
The first enjoyable game I played that involved multiplayer splitscreen on one television was "007 Goldeneye" on the Nintendo 64. Since the release of Goldeneye, there have been a large number of first person shooters, third person shooters, stealth, and racing games that have included the ability to play with more than one person on screen. The ideal situation, in my opinion, is to utilize LAN, or other network connections, so that you can have your own screen or monitor; but there is something about split screen that increases the level of competition, and trash talking, with your friends that just doesn't make sens.

Halo 4: First Look Video

343 Industries has released an incredible video, which gives us the chance to see the making of Halo 4. I am completely shocked.. If you know what love feels like, this is it! There are butterflies in my stomach each time I watch this video! Let's just get straight to it. The video is on Halo's official site. Enjoy!

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!

"That's 'Service Games', Sonny...": A Brief History of Companies and Their Names: Part 2

How are these men related? They're the founders of Sony, and a MS Engineer.
It gets better, just read the article.
First off, I'd like to apologize for the long delays in the release of this article. Technical and physical difficulties kept it from being released on time, however I have enjoyed writing, and rewriting this article, and I hope that you too will enjoy these brief segments on video game companies, their names and their histories. Without further delay, I present part 2 of "That's 'Service Games', Sonny...": A Brief History of Companies and Their Names.

Assassin's Creed to take place during the American Revolution

An image of the box art for Assassin's Creed 3 was released by Ubisoft. After the images leaked, Ubisoft decided that they should officially release the box art above! Lucky for us, it's incredible. We see an assassin with a tomahawk, bow and arrows, and pistol. It looks as if the game will be taking place during the American Revolution! Many people were guessing that AC3 would take place in Japan, or Egypt, or even Paris. Not to brag, but my friend Nick and I totally predicted this one! If you haven't played the DLC for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - The Da Vinci Disappearance, you should. All I will say is that it's slightly indicated at the very end of it... By numbers...

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!
