Season Passes on Xbox Live.... Will it become common place?

On September 20, 2011 Epic Games released Gears of War 3. I am a huge fan of the Gears of War series, and could not wait to sink my teeth into this game! Not only are the graphics absolutely incredible, but the story that has been told so far is a dramatic twist on aliens taking over the planet. I have had an amazing experience with Gears of War 3 so far, and I must say, it's looking to be one of my favorite games to come out this year, so far.
With the games release on September 20, 2011, a season pass was offered. The season pass is something you purchase so that you get all of the down loadable content (DLC) for that particular game at a discount, and for the first year that the game is out. Normally the season pass is $45.00, but when the game comes out, and for a short time after, the season pass is $30.00. Epic Games has announced that with in the first year, there will be 4 DLC items for Gears of War 3, normally priced at $15.00 a piece. It's a pretty good deal because you are essentially paying for two DLC, and getting two for free.

Turn 10 Studios who are the creators of the "Forza Motorsport" games, made a similar announcement on the 22nd of September. They indicated that they would be releasing 6 DLC items. Here is what they had to say:

"Starting October 14th, players can purchase the Season Pass on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and at participating retailers for only 2,400 Microsoft points – redeemable for six game add-on packs, representing a 30% overall saving as compared to purchasing the content separately. Delivering 60 of the hottest cars to supplement your Forza experience, the six game add-ons included in the Season Pass offer will be released from November 2011 to April 2012 and are must-haves for Forza Motorsport fans, whether you like to race, tune or simply collect cars from the hundreds of available models in Forza Motorsport 4."

Now, granted that Gears of War 3, and Forza Motorsport are both Xbox exclusives, I am not entirely sure if this is going to be something that only Microsoft will be doing with all of it's exclusive titles, or if Sony will be doing something similar with their exclusive titles. I would not be surprised to see this happening with all titles in the near future. It really is a good deal if you think about it, and will save you some cash later down the road. It's like going into a store like Costco, or Sams Club, and buying items in bulk. You're spending a little more money up front, but when all is said and done you are saving a good chunk of change! What are your thoughts on the Season Pass? Good idea? Bad idea? Leave a comments below, and give your opinion!

Until next time, keep on gamin' on!
