I recently purchased the Turtle Beach X12 Gaming Headset for my Xbox 360 (also works for PC) and wanted to let the rest of the world know what I think of them.
I have been debating about getting a gaming headset for about 3 years now. I have weighed the pros and cons, looked at reviews on as many as possible, and even tried some of my friends headsets. It wasn't until about a year ago that I had my eye set on the "Turtle Beach" brand. A year ago Turtle Beach wasn't as big as they are today; it seems like anyone I talk to today about a gaming headset recommends Turtle Beach.
My best friend explained to me that "Using the Turtle Beach Headset is like having an extra perk in Modern Warfare 3! I can hear someone's footsteps as they approach me from behind, and defend my self better from their flank!". I didn't know how true this comment was until I put on my headset and played the game myself. I wasn't five minutes into my first game when I heard footsteps behind me as I was sniping from a second story building. I turned around and was able to shoot the enemy before he got close enough to knife me, or get a shot off. I could do nothing but praise my headset to my best friend, and tell him "You were totally right man! It's an extra perk for sure!".
The sound that the Turtle Beach's produce is brilliantly clear. With the Turtle Beach X12's, I am able to control the game volume, chat volume, bass boost, chat with my friends or other gamer's with the boom mic, and mute my voice. The game volume is how loud you want the game to sound. The chat volume controls how loud you like your friends voices in your ear. The bass boost is my favorite feature, as it allows me to control the amount of bass the game produces. If I have the bass boost turned up all the way it seriously sounds, and feels, like I am in the game. All of the explosions, crashes, sniper shots, helicopter blades, and rumbles from jets put me in the game like I have never experienced before. It's like having a sub woofer on my head! The boom mic picks up your voice with no problems at all. I have found that even if it's not near my mouth I can talk normal and it still picks my voice up.
The X12's are comfortable when worn for moderate periods of time. After a couple of hours, the tops of my ears began to feel some discomfort. It's nothing a short break wouldn't fix, but that doesn't detract from the overall experience that these headphones provide. Another nice feature that the X12's provide is the extra long 16 ft cord attached to the headphones. I don't feel like I have to constantly lean forward when I have them on. I can relax to my liking, and enjoy the powerful sound that they provide!

I would recommend this headset to anyone. It will add a "perk" to your gaming, and deliver a sound that you couldn't get out of speakers otherwise. I'm giving the Turtle Beach X12 Gaming Headset a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Go get yourself this headset. You will not regret a second of it, and with a price tag of $59.95, you're bound to get your moneys worth with in the first minute of your gaming experience.
Until next time, keep on gamin' on!
I've had Turtle Beaches in the past, and I actually didn't like them very much. I had the x11 model, and they seemed kinda flimsy and the mic was really sensitive. I recommend the Trittons. They have a model that matches about the same price as all of the Turtles, they are more sturdy, better sound quality, and the mic isn't as sensitive. But that's just my preference. They are kinda heavy, and hurt your neck to game with for long hours.
