Greetings gamers! It is my great opportunity to be the newest addition, and editor on the Gaming Cuisine team. I’d like to share with you a little bit about myself, and how I’ve come to love video games.
My name is Austin Horn, and much like Mike “HunterZero” Clark, I’m a Utahn through and through. I admit that I’m not as hardcore as my colleagues when it comes to gaming, but I do enjoy what my family calls “nerding” or “getting my nerd on”, whenever I have the time. I guess you could call me a casual gamer.
My first recollection of video games goes way back to when I was just a “little” tyke (I’ve always been big for my age). My Grandparents had an SNES along with many of the Super Mario games, which my siblings and I would fight over every time we went to visit. Around that same time my dad decided that it was time to dust off the NES and I got to experience Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Contra, Excite Bike and many other classic titles. As the years went on we stayed pretty true to the Nintendo Franchise and acquired an N64, Gamecube, and Gameboy. We played games like Golden Eye 007, Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, MarioKart, and Mario Party. I could spend a long time just listing all of the games but I’m guessing you get the point.
When I was about 14 my cousin gave me his Playstation … he just gave it to me! I was on cloud 9! I spent many hours playing Final Fantasy VII and loved the concept of turn-based gameplay. That was my first real introduction into the world of RPG’s and I’ve never looked back.
Free Roaming titles such as Fable, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and some newer titles like Borderlands and Red Dead Redemption, have come to be my favorite style. I love that I can just play the game at my own pace and make my character into who I want them to be. I also enjoy First Person Shooter titles like Halo and Call of Duty, as well as Third Person Shooters like Splinter Cell and Hitman. Give me a game that has a good story and customizable characters, and I’ll be as happy as a fat kid with a corn dog!
Well, I hope that gives you a brief insight into who I am, and I hope that my friends and I will be able to help you fill your plate with all the gaming grub that your heart desires! Good Gaming!
-Austin “HornFlake” Horn
