It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that we will be taking a break from running The Hive Gaming League. The few of us that are running the league are currently entangled in other projects that are at a higher priority.
It's our dream to create Utah's number one competitive league. We would feel more comfortable running the HGL when we are all able to focus more of our attention on it. We do not want to offer a gaming league that is "just okay", and so we want to take a break so we can come back stronger, and much better than we have been in years past.
This is not a situation where we will take a break, and never come back like I have seen companies do. This is very temporary, and will likely only be a few months.
Thank you all for your patience, for your dedication to wanting to see us grow, your loyalty, and for just being awesome human beings in general. I know that you'll be here when we are able to focus more attention on the HGL, and I can guarantee that it will be worth the wait in the end.
See you soon gamers. And until then, keep on gamin' on!

Site Update, and Season 1 details
Welcome to the temporary home of The Hive Gaming League!! Everything is pretty much the same as when we were Gaming Cuisine, but now the site has changed from gaming-cuisine.blogspot.com to hivegl.blogspot.com.
We will post everything here until we have the website completed, so be sure to keep checking back for updates.
After a very long meeting, we finalized a lot of what we want the league to become. To start off, we wanted to create seasons for teams to sign up for, and compete against each other for a 3 month period. At the end of each online season, we will hold a LAN championship series based off of the seed of each team from the online season.
Our projected date to start this will be August 1, 2014. This date is only valid if we are 100% certain that we have all avenues ready to begin the HGL's first season. We have quite a bit of work ahead of us, but we are confidant that you will be pleased with our new league!
As announced on Twitter, Season 1 will be Call of Duty: Ghosts - 2v2. What you can expect is that there will be a league entry fee for each season. If you register as a team, it will only cost $25.00 per team (or 12.50 a person). If you register as a free agent, meaning you don't have a teammate, it will cost $15.00 per person. We will be creating a "Free Agent List" where people can find a teammate. If there is an odd man out by the deadline for registration, that person will either be refunded, or may be apart of the league as a substitute for the remainder of the season. If that player is able to find a teammate during the season and would like to create a new team, that new team may compete in the middle of the season, but will have a lower seed based on the number of wins compared to those who have been competing on the league since day one.
We have a specific list league rules that I will post later this week, but I thought I'd give you all an idea of what to expect for the time being. We will use MLG/Gamebattles rules for all of our tournaments, but the way the seasons will be ran is a little different.
Registration will open as soon as we have the account to accept registration fee's.
The way a season will run is by having each team compete against each other in a bracket ran by the HGL. Each team will compete in two series a week, and it will be the teams responsibility to schedule when to compete against the assigned opposing team within the time frame given.
Again, all detailed rules will be posted within the week, so please save your questions until after those have been posted.
Entry into the LAN Championship will cost $20.00 per team (or $10.00 per person), and $25.00 for teams who sign up for the tournament the day of the championship who have not competed in the online season. Those teams will be seeded below everyone else who has competed up to that point. All money received the day of the championship will be used for prize money, and a percentage of the League entry fee's for the online season will be used for prize money as well.
We plan on hosting a mid-season LAN where everyone can compete against each other. Stats will not be taken from the mid-season LAN. It's more of a fun environment where people can get hands on practice, in a LAN environment, and play scrimmage matches.
That is a very general explanation of what to expect for Season 1. As stated above, I will be posted a much more detailed explanation of the rules.
We are extremely excited to get this started. No one else in Utah is offering this, and we take great pride in becoming Utah's "go-to" for competitive gaming! You will soon see our new logo, and site. We are pretty stoked with the draft designs that are being sent to us, and know that you will love the final design!
Be sure to follow us on Twitter (@TheHiveGL), and soon on Facebook for updates, as we will likely post there first before we update the site. Stay tuned for more details!

Salt Fest 2014 - Halo 4: 2v2 Tournament Finals Video
Wow. That title up there is a mouth full! We had an absolute blast hosting the Halo 4 - 2v2 tournament at Salt Fest this year. I would have to say that it's the best tournament we've had the privilege of running. We had some extremely close games, some sudden death matches due to tied games, and by far the best players we've seen in our competition's to date. We have come a long way since we started hosting tournaments 3 years ago, and we couldn't have done it with out you; the gamer.
Here is a link to the INSANE finals for our Halo 4 - 2v2 tournament. We already announced the winners on Twitter, but Team Utah Noobs took first place. They were the winner's of the "winner's bracket", but definitely had an incredible final round with @Selph_Titled, and @BrianShostak, who took second place.
So what's next? We announced at the end of day one of Salt Fest our name change. For those of you who didn't catch that on the Twitter feed, we are proud to announce our new name from this point forward; The Hive Gaming League. Now that we are focused on nothing but competitive gaming and are wanting to create a legit league that people join per season, we wanted to go through a re-branding for this fresh start.
We are unsure of when Season 1 will start, but we are hopeful that it will begin towards the end of July. We would like to leave what games we use up to you, the competitor. So be sure to vote for which games you want in Season 1 in our poll to your right!
Hopefully The Hive Gaming League will be getting a logo sooner than later, and a new website to go along with it, but until then, keep coming back here for all updates. Also be sure to follow us on Facebook, and Twitter as we will likely post there first with quick announcements and tidbits. The future of Utah's competitive gaming is near, and extremely bright! We want you along for the ride.
Until next time, keep on gamin' on! OH, and welcome to The Hive. #HGL2014

Salt Fest 2014: Halo 4 - 2v2 Settings and Rules
It's almost that time gamers. Salt Fest 2014 is weeks away. Excited? We sure are! What settings can you expect for Salt Fest 2014? Halo 4 - Version 5 settings. Listed below are the version 5 maps for the 2 versus 2 tournament we will be throwing.
MAPS
MAPS
- Abandon
- Haven
- Simplex
- Onyx
- Dispatch
GAMETYPE
- Team Slayer
SCORE LIMIT
- 25 Kills
All matches must be played in their entirety unless both teams agree to postpone or cancel the match. A Standard Ladder Match will be played best of 3 maps (first to 2). Finals will be best of 5 maps (first to 3).
Each player must bring their own controller. SCUF Controllers are allowed. Controllers found modding the gameplay of Halo 4 (I.E. increased speeds of a player, weapon, and one hit kills with weapons that aren't programmed that way, etc.) will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament with no refund of moneys.
Each player may choose to bring their own headsets. These will not be provided at Salt Fest 2014. Please be aware of this, and plan accordingly.
Timers may be used, as long as they are not over cumbersome, and do not take longer than 5 minutes to set up.
Coaches are allowed, but must pay for a Salt Fest day, or weekend pass to participate. Coaches will not need to pay the tournament entree fee ($10), however.
If we missed something, please let us know. All questions may be addressed to gamingcuisine@gmail.com
See you at Salt Fest 2014!!

Salt Fest 2014 Update
Recently we had the opportunity to meet with the people over at Salt Fest, and discuss what to expect at this years Salt Fest. Here is what we found out.
The company that provided all of the amazing equipment at last year's Salt Fest will likely not be attending this year, and as of right now, we have much less equipment than we had anticipated.
We were planning on running a Halo Reach 2v2 tournament, a Halo 4 - 2v2 tournament, and a Call of Duty: Ghosts 4v4 tournament. Because of the lack of equipment, we have to drop at least one of these tournaments. To your right, you will notice a poll asking which one of these titles should be dropped from this years Salt Fest. If you are planning on competing at this years Salt Fest, please put in your vote so your voice will be heard!
We have been asked what rules will be used for each of these titles, and at this point, we will be using the same rule set as Major League Gaming. As far as gametypes, that has yet to be decided. As soon as we have that information, we will share it with all of you!
Make sure you put in your vote to the right, of which game we should drop at this years Salt Fest, and check back frequently for updates!

COD: Ghosts - Midnight Launch Tournament & COD: Ghosts 2v2 Tournament Announcement
We will be at the Gamestop in Jordan Landing hosting a Black Ops II - 2v2 Tournament. If we get permission from Infinity Ward, we may be playing COD: Ghosts for this tournament like we have in previous years at these kinds of events! If you do not have a partner, come early and find one! It is a midnight launch for COD: Ghosts, so you'll likely find someone who will compete with you! The winners will receive free entrance into the upcoming COD: Ghosts tournament on November 16, 2013, at the Microsoft Store for a chance at cash prizes! First place winners will also be moved up to the front of the line so that they will be the first person to get their copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts at 12:01 AM. Even if you aren't getting Ghosts tonight, it will be a blast to come and compete, and have your chance at possibly playing Ghosts early!
A lot of COD: Ghosts swag will be given out by Gamestop tonight, so make sure you finalize your payment, AND receive your ticket number (which determines your spot in line to get the game) so that you can have a chance at winning items in the raffle. If you have finalized your payment or reservation for Ghosts up to this point, this does not guarantee your spot in line. You must show up at 9:00 PM to complete this process to gain your ticket, which determines your spot in line. (Please continue reading for more details and rules for this tournament)

Toxic Euphoria (Justin Burns) and his Halo 2 Montage
For those of you gamers out there who have heard of Toxic Euphoria (Justin Burns), you know that he is a former semi professional Halo player in the Major League Gaming. He has a very impressive history, and is known for being crowned "King of the Double Shot". Justin recently competed with the up and coming GC Cartman (Carter Davis), at Salt Fest's Halo 4: 2v2 tournament in May, 2013. Unsurprisingly, they took first place in this competition, and did so very efficiently. It was a close final few matches, but in the end, they came out as champions.

Happy 2 Years!!
Well, we made it to the second year of running this site. We've had some ups, and we've had some downs. Despite the downs, we have pushed through and endured! Before I continue with my post today, I'd like to take a second and thank you, the gamers. We literally have you to thank for our motivation to continue to do this. The spikes that we have seen in readership would keep us going, and smiling ear to ear. While we have changed out goals to focus on the Gaming Cuisine Competitive League (GCCL), we still value our readers just as much as before.
